You can download all the forms you need to file from www.courts.wa.gov/forms. My "Mastering the Protection Order" e-book tells you exactly which ones, how to fill them out, file and serve, and gives additional important insider information and tips from an attorney to help you move forward.
A well-written and supported protection order has a good chance of being granted in court if you can prove you meet the statutory requirements, which focus on your relationship with your abuser and threats or violence.
You receive an e-book that includes all forms needed to file a Domestic Violence Protection Order petition and instructions, access to 45 minutes of detailed video instruction, and an invitation to a private Facebook group for connection with other DV survivors.
Anyone who meets the statutory requirements can apply. While most petitioners are women, domestic violence affects everyone, including men and nonbinary individuals.
Anything proving violence or threats of violence will help the court make a decision whether to grant your petition for a protection order. This can include texts, videos or voicemails (if transcribed), declarations from witnesses, medical and police reports and more.
Protection orders are not a guarantee of safety (after all, they are only a piece of paper) and many abuser violate them. You should always have a safety plan in place and take precautions. However, a legal protection order can allow the police to arrest your abuser if he shows up at your home or workplace, may allow your employers to help you take additional safety precautions, can help you get access to services, and can offer many other legal benefits.
